Environmental Benefits of Reclaimed Timber

Reclaimed timbers offer innumerable environmental benefits while allowing you to access gorgeous old-growth hardwoods often not available in other forms. In addition, many clients use these timbers to be compliant with environmental goals of their project. An example of this is in LEED certified buildings.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is a certification process that encourages the use of sustainable green building and development practices.

Depending on the specific flooring, Historical Timber Flooring products may qualify for the following credits:
MR 4.1 and MR 4.2 (Recycled Content) – up to 2 points
MR 7 (Certified Wood) – 1 point
MR 5.1 and MR 5.2 (Regional Materials) – up to 2 points

LEED certified buildings receive a LEED certification plaque and marketing exposure through the USGBC website. LEED certified buildings can also qualify for a growing number of local and state government incentives, including tax rebates and zoning allowances.

Please contact us for more details about the specific credits your flooring may be eligible for, or go the USGBC website for more information about LEED certification and benefits.
